Persuasive Writing Techniques

7 Fevereiro 2024, 17:00 Hilda Alexandra Prazeres Eusebio

Today, TP2 learned about the 20 persuasive writing techniques used in different writing forms and then went on to identify these techniques in The New Yorker's article by Anna Russell entitled 'The Fury and Mischief of Paula Rego'.

Homework
  1. Students are to finish reading the article (from the top of the paragraph where it says 'Rego's mother was also artistic') and identify the persuasive writing techniques from that point onward.  Students who missed this class are to read the article from the beginning and identify the techniques throughout.  The PowerPoint on persuasive writing techniques, along with the review, are available on the shared Google drive.
  2. Students are to watch the production of David Tennant's Hamlet.  This has been uploaded on to the shared Google drive thanks to Lisa!  (Thank you Lisa!)  Please ensure that you watch this before next class on Wednesday.  It's three hours long, so start watching!
Next class: I'll be asking people to feedback the techniques they found in the Rego review and then we'll read reviews on Tennant's Hamlet.

What is art?

31 Janeiro 2024, 17:00 Hilda Alexandra Prazeres Eusebio

Today, TP2 briefly debated what art is.  We followed this by beginning to look at a selection of paintings from Paula Rego's Tate Britain exhibition (2021).  The students made some amazing insights into the paintings' potential meanings and how these might have been achieved through the artist's specific use of form, composition, and, particularly, colour and scale.

Next class: we will continue to look at Rego's work and hopefully read one of the reviews.
