Today we read and discussed the second half of “What does it mean to be British and does it still matter?” by Yvonne Robert.

Students who missed this class should read this text at home.

We also discussed the outline for the end-of-semester exam.  The exam will happen over the course of two days:
  • On day 1, students will be asked to write an editorial on one of the topics listed on the test.
  • On day 2, students will be asked to write an essay in response to ONE of the five questions listed on the test.  The questions will be based on the following topics:
    • tabloids vs. broadsheets (one question to choose from)
    • nationalism - British and possibly American (one question to choose from)
    • Salmon Fishing in the Yemen (three questions to choose from).
Next class: we will begin to look at Salmon Fishing in the Yemen.
