Cat's  Cradle - Part 2 + Expository Writing - Part 1

28 Novembro 2016, 16:00 Hilda Alexandra Prazeres Eusebio

In light of the fact that students still have not read the book, very little was discussed about the novel.

Students were then introduced to Expository Writing and to their next in-class group assignment.

"As one of the four traditional modes of discourse, expository writing may include elements of narration, description, and argumentation, but unlike creative writing or persuasive writing, its primary goal is to deliver information about an issue, subject, method, or idea."

Students then went on to read and analyze different types of expository texts for the novel The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold.

  • a book summary;
  • a plot summary;
  • a book review;
  • a movie trailer.

Classwork/Homework:

As a group you are going to produce a piece of expository writing on Kurt Vonnegut Jr.'s Cat's Cradle.  This can be:

  • a book review;
  • an extensive summary;
  • a descriptive essay;
  • a public service announcement warning the public of the effects of ice-9;
  • a tv or radio interview with the author and/or tv series screenplay writer.

Each option should seek to reveal as much information about the novel as possible.
