GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

·         In this exercise you will need to read ONE of the following articles: “How social media affects teen mental health: a missing link” OR “What if polluters footed the climate bill?” (both available on the TP’s Google Drive).

·         Choose ONE of the questions and write a “for & against” essay of 500-600 words in appropriate style. Essays with less than 500 words will be penalised.

·         Write the number of your question before you start the essay.

·         Quotes will NOT be included in the word limit.

·         Write the number of words at the end of your essay. Essays that do not indicate the word number will have 0.5 points deducted from the final mark.

·         Any research conducted to write the essay must be included in a list of works cited. Essays that do not do so will have 1 point deducted.

 

FORMATTING INSTRUCTIONS

·         Essays must be word-processed. Font: Times New Roman; Size: 12; Line height: 1,5. The whole text must be justified.

·         Student name and number must be written at the top of the page as well as course and TP number.

·         Essays that do not follow these instructions will have 0.5 points deducted from the final mark.

 

SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS

·         Essays must be submitted until: MARCH 17, 2023, AT MIDNIGHT

·         Essays may be submitted in two separate ways:

o   Students may hand in a printed copy of their essay in class on Friday, the 17th; or

o   Students may hand in their essays by email until Friday, the 17th, at midnight (sharp). E-mail address: anaritasilva@e-letras.ulisboa.pt

2.     “How social media affects teen mental health: a missing link” (Nature) by Amy Orben and Sarah-Jayne Blakemore analyses the impact of social media on teens’ mental health. Considering Orben and Blakemore’s article, write a ‘for and against’ essay where you discuss the advantages and disadvantages of social media for young people.
