We had a look at Aristotle's model of change in Metaphysics Z.7, where there is typically a form 'in' the agent that is then 'transmitted' to some matter or patient. We also briefly discussed whether Aristotle's view in Metaphysics Z that form is primary substance, is incompatible with his view in the Categories that individual compound substance are primary substances.

Prof. Eliopoulos (University of Ioannina, on Erasmus visit at FLUL) gave a lecture on fate, virtue, and wisdom, mainly in Stoic philosophy and Aristotle, and their role for a good life/eudaimonia, also in contemporary times.

We started to go through Aristotle's discussion of essence in Metaphysics Z4, where he states in general what is essential to a thing, what things can have essences (strictly speaking) and also notes some restrictions for a proper definition.

Substrate as Substance in Z.3

We finished the overview of interpretations of what it could mean that substance is primary in time in Metaphysics Z.1. We then went through the reductio ad impossibile argument in Metaphysics Z.3, where being a substrate is discussed as a mark of substantiality.
