Today, TP7 finished reading  'Stripped of finery, detained by police as an ordinary citizen: now Andrew enters a new era – and Britain too' by Simon Jenkins.  Students who missed this class should finish reading this at home.

We then went on to read the first eight (8) paragraphs of Text 6, Sally Ballas's 'What good is the sparkle of Strictly if young people in Britain aren’t getting the chance to dance?'  Students who missed today's class should catch up on this reading.

Next class: We're going to finish Text 6 and then move on to Text 9: Cathy Reay's 'A message to the NHS: disabled people like having sex, too'.

Guided small-group discussion about the film Il Postino and what is says about metaphor.

Presentation on standard, implied, visual and extended metaphors, as well as mixed and dead metaphors.

Small group work exercise on how we label the people we observe, as a lead-in to watching Coke’s “Labels are for cans not people” ad and discussing the metaphors in it.
