Visiting professor Adrian Radu led a session about D.H. Lawrence's short story "The Odour of Chrysanthemums" and how this illustrates the attitudes of the working class at the beginning of the last century. 

Essay

Reviewed the elements of the essay with a focus on writing a thesis, providing evidence and using MLA for both in-text citation and a works cited list. 

Gave guidelines for the final presentation where students have to compare two pieces of literature based on a given topic. 

How to write an essay - different types of essay

The class learned about - and looked at different samples of - the different types of written essay:
  • for and against essays;
  • opinion essays;
  • descriptive essays.
TP8 also looked at sample essays from previous turmas - we looked at both successful and less successful samples so as to better understand what it is that makes a good (or bad) essay.
