Discussion of the story "Are we not men?", focusing on a futuristic society where living beings have been genetically modified. We also debated whether or not society would be prepared for this new kind of personhood. We also reviewed some vocabulary from the story.

Textual Analysis: Text 1 on USA

Analysis of first text from the anthology about the early years of settling the lands now known as the USA before the arrival of the pilgrim fathers on the Mayflower. Discussion particularly of the constitution of Jamestown, with its House of Burgesses, the first "parliament" with power in the New World, and the nature of private enterprises running the colonies rather than them being owned by the Crown, as was the case with Portugal and Spain.
