Discussion
of the short story “Next to Nothing”. We focused on the sisters’ nihilistic approach
to life along with some of the allusions to religion (biblical references). In addition
to their relationship, we focused on their parenting style and also analyzed
specific passages from the story.

Grammar : Adverbs and mini sagas

We did a grammar review based on the position of adverbs (initial-, mid-, or end-position, along with variable-position adverbs). After practicing, we looked at common adverbial collocations (adverbs + adjective or past participle/ adverb + verb). Students then red some mini-sagas (50-word stories) and were asked to write one themselves using at least two adverbs and one adverbial collocation.
