Grammar (Subject/Verb agreement) and Girl

We did a quick review on countable and uncountable nouns, including some irregular forms that take either a singular or plural verb. We then reviewed cases where nouns can be followed by either a singular or plural verb. Students put the rules into practice by doing a couple of exercises.

We then read and discussed the short story "Girl" by Jamaica Kincaid. We focused on gender roles and expectations, repression and conformity as well as power dynamics. The main discussion was on the struggles and constraints faced by women within patriarchal societies and how some of these still hold true today.

Presentations included the following topics: "This is not America", Global cuisine: cabbage an chocolate, and the conspiracy theories on 9/11 and the JFK assassination. A brief Q&A and discussion followed each presentation.
