Warm-up: some common errors

Presentation on anthropomorphism and its detractors. Pair work analysis of the differences between paired characters: Peter Rabbit/the velveteen rabbit; Paddington/Pooh; Wilbur/Piglet. Identification of the problems and desires of each of the characters.

Presentation on wolves in children’s literature, with a focus on the Native American story The Two Wolves as illustrated by Zen Pencils.

Pair work exercise on animal idioms and expressions.

HOMEWORK: Read “Pathology in the Hundred Acre Wood”, an academic article about Winnie the Pooh and friends. Make a word-family table of nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs from the nouns describing The Two Wolves.

Presentation on animal characters from children’s literature being taken seriously outside of their books in the realms of public art, royalty, politics and psychology.

Group discussion about the academic article “Pathology in the Hundred Acre Wood”. Pop quiz online to discover character matches with Pooh, Piglet, Tigger, etc., followed by same-personality group discussions.
