Difficulties in Legal Translation: HERE-, THERE-, AND WHERE- WORDS

Tassignment for this practical is to translate the sentences/phrases into Portuguese keeping in mind that these words are often deemed unnecessary and are therefore simply ignored or omitted in translation.

Focusing on Skopos

Students were asked to translate an article (excerpt) from the National Geographic Magazine. Students were asked to analyze some of the defining proporties of the text and come up with the best translation strategies  based on the priorities imposed by the skopos of the text. The title of the text is "The paper crafts bring the party on the Day of the Dead".

Translation procedures / Practical 4

Reviewed some the of the translation procedures/strategies developed by Vinay and Darbelnet. Gave students a  Consumer-oriented text related to leisure activities, in this case excerpts from a Boston travel guide. Students were put into groups and assigned to translate different parts of the text.
