Discusses the topic of translation loss as well as equivalence. We then discussed some compensation strategies that can be used to avoid as much loss as possible.

Students were then put into groups and began working on a sample from "The Semplica Girl Diaries".

Spent most of the class reviewing the translations students had done paying particular attention on how the translations could vary depending on the skopos/target audience.

Reviewed some basic definitions/notions about translation such as strategic decisions/decisions of detail along with intersemiotic and intralingual translation. I then asked students to do an intralingual translation of Genesis 11, v. 1-9  while trying to adapt it for a specific purpose and a specific public. Students started this practical exercise in groups.

Reviewed the syllabus with students, including the assessment criteria.

Also looked over the 3 presentation topics that students will have to give in groups under the general theme: Lost in Translation.
