Talked abou SL bias versus TL bias (and considered the scale discussed by Newmark which includes different types of translation: interlineal, literal, faithful, balanced, idiomizing, free and communicative translation).

Also discussed the concepts of equivalence and translation loss.
Finally, we reviewed students translations of Practical 2 focusing on some of the creative strategies they used to maintain the original's style.

Intralingual translation reviewed

Reviewed students' intralingual translation of Genesis 11:1-9.Students had to adapt their translation to a particular audience and discuss some of the textual changes they made, along with the reasons for these alterations.

We then read Practical 2 which was a sample from the short story "The Semplica Girls". We looked at some of the features of the text and discussed ways we could avoid translation loss.

Translation as a process

Reviewed some gerenal concepts related to the translation process, including gist and exegetic translation.

Students were then put into groups and asked to do an intralingual translation of an excerpt from the Bible on the Tower of Babel.
