1) Warm-up: Recycling vocabulary: beauty spot, brainstorm, chest, stare.
2) Speaking/pre-reading activity: pair work: Answering questions: When and where were you born? (Give date, day or week, exact time, place.)/ What is your earliest memory?/ What have you been told about your early days?
3) Reading: A short extract from Coming Up for Air (1934) by George Orwell.
4) Post-Reading activities: pair-work: reading comprehension questions.

1) Presenting the programme and assessment rules
2) Icebreakers: getting to know each other:
a) pair work activity: Sts had to write their names and four words about themselves, the others had to guess the connection and vice versa.
b) pair work activity: each student had to answer a “crazy question” chosen at random by his/her partner (questions were written on separate slips of paper.) Sts then had to present each other in front of the class.
c) group work activity: picture charades: blank stare
