First writing test given back to students and feedback on main mistakes given.

HOMEWORK: Exercises about the possessive case (pp. 74-75); exercises sent by email about regular/irregular verb forms (affirmative, negative & interrogative sentences); definite and indefinite articles; possessive adjectives and pronouns. The answers will be checked on Wednesday, 27th March.


Test Correction / Describing People.

1) Warm-up: Recycling vocabulary: Sts wrote three adjectives on separate slips of paper – they had learnt last class – to describe themselves, then put the paper slips in a cotton bag. Each student chose randomly three different cards from the bag, and told the class whether that particular adjective was typical of him/her or not and why.

2) Checking homework: 34.3, 34.5, 34.6, 34.7. Pasta 3, p. 8.

3) Power-point presentation: Test: Evaluation criteria explained: A) Summary (Content (10-0)/Organisation (10-0)/Language (10-0)); B) Letter of Advice (Content (10-0)/Organisation (10-0)/Language (10-0) C) Vocabulary/ Grammar exercises are discussed together. Corrected tests were then handed out in order that Sts should check their answers and reflect on their possible mistakes.

4) Vocabulary: Pair work activity: Various exercises from Vocabulary in Use: Unit 33. Describing People, Appearance"

Group activity: Sts had to write a short description of themselves on a strip of paper--using the new terms. Sts put the slips in a bag, then chose one piece of paper one by one from the same bag and guessed the person.

Post-Reading activity: Reading comprehension questions followed by free discussion on the topic.

2) Vocabulary and speaking, group work activity: Describing people: character

Finding expressions and their synonyms, and defining meaning:

A) Intellectual abilities: intelligent, smart, clever, brainy, etc.

B) Attitudes towards life: pessimistic, optimistic, introverted, extroverted, practical, sensible, sensitive, etc.

C) Attitudes towards other people: sociable, argumentative, reliable, etc.

D) Positive and negative characteristics:

‘determined’ versus ‘obstinate’

‘innocent’ versus ‘naïve’

‘economical’ versus ‘mean’

3) Sts defined themselves using the new adjectives they learnt.
