New York Times Podcast: The Rabbit Hole
2 Dezembro 2024, 12:30 • Rui Vitorino Azevedo
In today's class, we listened to the first episode of a New York Times podcast (The Rabbit Hole) that discussed how the internet has played a role in radicalizing individuals. After listening, we engaged in a series of questions related to the content of the podcast. These questions sparked a debate among the students on the pros and cons of YouTube and its algorithm. Students explored how YouTube's recommendation system can both positively and negatively impact users by influencing the type of content they are exposed to, potentially leading to radicalization. We also discussed how individuals come to identify themselves as radical extremists, examining the psychological and social factors that contribute to this process. The discussion further touched on the responsibility of tech companies in managing their platforms and the balance between freedom of expression and the prevention of harmful content.
