Students briefly reviewed the simple past and past continuous tenses and were then asked to rejoin their music video groups from the past session.  Students continued to write their stories and then shared them out in small groups. Students discussed the obituary of José Saramago and identified its various components particularly anecdotes and their purpose. Students were then introduced to their unit 1 obituary assessment.

Reading and discussing the beginning of 'A Christmas Story' by Truman Capote.Finding and discussing literary devices (e.g. narrator, character construction, the use of figurative language, etc).

Homework : finish reading the short story.

Class 3:

Students completed a speaking game to learn more about their classmates as well as formed groups for future discussions.  Students were taught the different components of a biography and were asked to identify them in the reading The Biography of Mark Zuckerberg. In groups of 4-5 students were assigned a music video that tells a narrative, students watched the video and then asked to create a story about or a retelling of the music video they were assigned using the simple past and past continuous tenses.
