Students were introduced to satire, examined different ways it is used, and its purpose.  Students then read and analyzed A Modest Proposal by Jonathan Swift and discussed the satire in the piece. With each satirical example students were asked to define the author's target, how he was satirizing them, and what the author wanted changed.
