Discussion of student abstracts and working with summaries

Students had submitted their abstracts for their oralpresentations in the last class, or they had sent them by email.
I began this class discussing the abstracts with individuals and groups to help them orientate their oral presentation.
Academic summaries: we began reading Brigit Flohr's essay "Representation of the Self and the Other in Eighteenth Century Travel Writing" in preparation for the final summary writing exercise. I illustrated how this type of work should be approached and students practised the techniques with the first page of this essay.
