Descriptive Writing Continued...

18 Fevereiro 2020, 12:00 Hilda Alexandra Prazeres Eusebio

Today we analyzed The Magic Metal Tube, an exerpt from Maxine Hong Kingston's The Woman Warrior: Memoirs of a Girlhood Among Ghosts (Knopf, 1976).

We then analyzed Inside District School #7, Niagara County, New York by Joyce Carol Oates, a paragraph originally published in The Washington Post's Book World and reprinted in Faith of a Writer: Life, Craft, Art [HarperCollins, 2003]).

Following these analyses, TP10 went outside to Campo Grande to do a descriptive writing exercise where they used detailed description of the park via the five senses to convey whatever mood they happened to be feeling at the time.  This exercise can be handed in as one of the options for the upcoming descriptive/narrative homework assignment.  Should anyone wish to hand it in, please ensure that it is typed up, improved, checked and emailed to me around the day of the deadline.

Goodbye Grammar...Hello Descriptive Writing!

13 Fevereiro 2020, 16:00 Hilda Alexandra Prazeres Eusebio

Today we finished off grammar by learning about time prepositions, position prepositions and direction prepositions.  Students should ensure that they do ALL of the prepositions exercises for homework:

We then went on to learn about Descriptive Writing.  Those who missed this class, should read the section on descriptive writing in their course books.

Next class: we will complete our analysis of the exerpt from Maxine Hong Kingston's The Woman Warrior: Memoirs of a Girlhood Among Ghosts (Knopf, 1976) and, following this, we will then go outsider to Campo Grande to do an outdoor descriptive writing exercise.  Those who are late for class should head out to Campo Grande in the event that we are no longer to be found in the classroom.
