Translation

A newspaper article was translated in class to focus on the difference between the present perfect and simple past.

General observations were made on how to attain fluency.

Only half of the text was translated, as most students found the exercise quite demanding.The students were given time to prepare the translation of half of the text in pairs, and then it was translated orally so that different alternatives could be shared. It will be completed in the next lesson.

Writing film reviews and blog posts

Students did the FCE exercises on writing film reviews and then compared the FCE film review to the Guardian review on the documentary "Bobby Sands"

We did written and oral vocabulary building exercises for film reviews.

Students also read the opinion blog on "The Purpose of Fantasy".

These exercises were in preparation for the first written assignments students must submit - film review or opinion article as blog posts.
