We watched the opening speakers of the "Islam is a Religion of Peace" and "Westen Military Action against ISIS" debate to offer students exampes of good, middling and bad opening speeches:

Very good from the perspective of structure and arguments Opening Speaker for the Proposition in the  "Islam is a Religion of Peace" 
Very bad from the perspective of structure and arguments Opening Speaker for the Opposition in the  "Islam is a Religion of Peace" and "Military Intervention" debates.
Middling: Proposition speaker in the "Military Intervention" debate.Open class discussion on the above, and suggestions on how each speaker's intervention could/should be improved.

Correction of inversion exercises.

Utopias. Dystopian movies

Students presented the Utopias they had invented in the previous class.

Discussion of the assigned dystopian movies.

Assessment criteria

Students introduce themselves to the class and then write a letter to the teacher.

Students will be assessed on oral and written work. Weighting will be as follows:

one writing test -                             50%
individual participation
in debates                                       20%
oral,written task-based
assignments and 
active participation in class             25%
attendance                                         5%

Since assessment will be conducted on a regular basis, any t5ask taht is not submitted when due and/or any form of plagiarism will be given a zero.
Worker students may opt for continuous assessment (in which case they will have to comply with all the assessment criteria set for regular students) 
OR sit an examination to be held after the end of the second semester.

The writing test will be held on May 23. dates for debates willbe set in class.
