We began by
reviewing a pre-translation analysis table based on Nord’s TOSTA model and
briefly discussed this framework before moving on to Vermeer’s Skopos theory
and Nida’s concept of equivalence. Next, we examined Practical 7, which had
been assigned for homework. Students had been asked to analyze features of the
source text (ST). During translation, I encouraged them to preserve the key
features identified while considering the text’s informative, engaging, and
entertaining nature. I also asked students to pay special attention to cultural
references, style, register, and rhetorical effect.

continued revising the translation of Practical 6 (Boston guide), focusing on
cultural specificities and exploring translation possibilities. Students shared
some specific strategies they used to address the challenges they had in preserving
the source text's tone and style, which was informal, conversational, and
persuasive.

We reviewed
students' translations of the Boston guide, focusing on maintaining the
original tone and style—informal, conversational, and persuasive. We examined
whether each student's general strategy aligned with these goals and discussed
possible adaptations needed for improvement. Most students applied a
communicative strategy, though some opted for a freer translation approach. In
these cases, we worked on aligning the target text more closely with the source
text.
We only
reviewed the first few paragraphs; the rest of the text was assigned for the
next class. It was also announced that Practical 7 would be uploaded to Moodle
for next Monday’s class.
