Students were given an extended reading assignment.

Online class (Zoom) Discussion of students' abstracts and novels

1 Abril 2020, 16:00 Cecília Maria Beecher Martins

I discussed students' abstracts for their oral presentations individually and according to their new groups.

Preparation and structure of Oral Presentations online

1.       Each individual presentation will be 12-15 minutes long. There will then be a collective discussion at the end of all the presentations. Each student must ask at least one question on the books they have not read.

2.       Students will submit their individual Powerpoint presentation after the Easter holidays on 15th April so that these can be distributed to the other members of the class so that all students can follow the presentation as they are delivered.

3.       In a professional setting presentation are prepared so that approx. 2 minutes is dedicated to each slide, so you should prepare a presentation with 6-8 slides (not counting your introductory presentation slide), and prepare your speech in accordance to the slides. You can of course add more slides but do not use too many.

4.       Presentations will take place on 20th, 22nd and 27th April because after reading your abstracts, I decided to group the presentations according to the novel read rather than according to the themes.

5.       When I read your abstracts, I noticed that in some cases students were looking at general concepts treated in their books, and not necessarily looking at the specific topic of their presentation. This is not I want you to do. I want you to focus on the specific theme of your presentation so please look at the all comments made on your abstracts. I expect you to follow these

6.       You will be graded on:

a)       The concentration on the theme of the presentation

b)       The cohesion of your arguments and how you use your book to support these

c)       Your fluency of delivery (obviously taking the constraints of the platform into consideration

d)       The quality and usefulness of your powerpoints.

The Oral Presentations will be structured as indicated in the email sent to the class email.
