Small group work brainstorming solutions to a problem in an imaginary city in the USA, with different groups being given a different metaphor at the beginning of their problem sheet. Feedback and discussion about how the opening metaphors influenced suggested solutions.

Presentation on dehumanising metaphors used during the Rwandan genocide, the Holocaust and the present-day Israel-Hamas conflict.

Pairwork analysis of a Sun newspaper piece full of hate-stirring metaphor about migrants.

4th hour/tutorial work: review of course in preparation for upcoming evaluation.

Homework: preparation for evaluation.

Reading and discussion of the short story "The Quiet Boy". Focused on some of the main themes such as abuse, education, teacher's roles, fables vs. cautionary tales, and the techniques used by the author to create suspense/mystery. 


Oxford Union Debate - Islam is a religion of peace

Today we continued to watch (and learn from) one of the Oxford Union Debates that was recorded and uploaded onto YouTube.

It is imperative that all students who missed the class watch the last four sections of the debate that we watched in class today, as this serves as a model for the debates that students will be carrying out for their oral exams.
