Directed small group discussions on the book, focusing on the lead character’s difficulty with metaphors.

4th hour/tutorial work: further practice on writing extended metaphors.

Homework: read/listen to The Prophet in full, focusing on metaphor.

We looked at a general verb tense review and then focused on some special uses of the present and past tense as well as the reported speech. Students did several exercises to consolidate these concepts. 


How to Write an Editorial - Part 2

Today, students finished reading and analyzing (and identifying the persuasive writing techniques in) the editorial I wrote for them entitled 'Leave Game of Thrones Alone'.


The PowerPoint and final product (the editorial) have been uploaded onto the shared Google drive and are in the folder entitled 'How to write an editorial'.  Students who have missed this very important lesson should go through this PowerPoint at home and read the editorial.

Next class: will be very important as we will be beginning our work learning about debates.  We will begin to watch the Oxford Union Debate on youtube: Islam is a religion of peace.
