MAPPING METAPHORS

Presentation on mapping source domains onto target domains in preparation for writing extended metaphors.

Pairwork: practising mapping metaphors.

4th hour/tutorial work: writing extended metaphors.

Homework: reading the first two articles in the coursebook: “What is a metaphor?” and “metaphor and thought: All shook up”.

Grammar review - the noun phrase and adjectives

The noun phrase was reviewed in terms of head noun, pre- and postmodifiers, and determines. 

We also looked at adjectives (attributive vs. predicative). We also covered the gradability and comparison of adjectives. Students were then asked to do a few exercises to practice these concepts. 
Homework as also assigned from the grammar book and this included reading and doing the corresponding exercises for 1B, 3B and 8B.

Today, TP2 finished reading (and identified the persuasive writing techniques in) Cathy Reay's A message to the NHS: disabled people like having sex, too.


We then moved on to Text 3: As a police officer, I was asked to undermine an alleged rape victim – I wish I could say it was a one-off by the Secret Police Officer.  We will finish reading (and identifying the persuasive writing techniques in) this text next class.

Homework: none.
