Jumpha Lahiri #Teach Yourself Italian"

Foi analisado na aula o texto de Jumpha Lahiri "Teach Yourself Italian. Foi analisado a simbologia de metamorfose que a autora usa no seu texto para descrever a aprendizagem de uma nova língua e a entrada numa nova cultura: "Here becomes there and there becomes here". Foi abordada a ideia de que ha uma ligação entre a aprendizagem de línguas e culturas, em prol de melhor comunicação do eu e do outro, e o desejo de um ponto de vista psicanalítico. 

Foram também levantados os seguintes temas:

Cultural metamorphosis;

Communication of the self across cultures;

Communication of the self against cultures;

Pela sua importância, destacam se as seguintes citações:

Outras competências interculturais: a linguagem não verbal

Concluiu-se a leitura do texto de E. Davies, com base na discussão de exemplos, e analisou-se uma cena do filme Lost in Translation (dir. Sofia Coppola, 2003), em que uma tradutora-intérprete revela uma fraca competência intercultural. A linguagem corporal dos intervenientes na interação comunicativa é um dos vários indicadores dessa mediação pouco bem-sucedida. Com esta narrativa audiovisual, entrou-se no último ponto do programa sobre comunicação não verbal, abordado a partir do quadro-síntese de Spencer-Oatey e Franklin (2009) e do artigo de David Matsumoto e Hyi-Sung Hwang, “Nonverbal communication: the messages of emotion, action, space and silence” (2012).

O tradutor/intérprete como agente de comunicação intercultural

Abordou-se o texto “Translation and intercultural communication” (2012), de Eirlys Davies, a partir da discussão de exemplos tanto do âmbito mediático como da literatura. Privilegiaram-se as seguintes linhas de discussão: a tradução como ponte ou obstáculo à comunicação intercultural (quando combate ou reforça estereótipos; quando promove o diálogo ou afasta culturas); o tradutor como veículo, mediador ou manipulador (confiança, responsabilidade, ética); o leitor acomodado vs. leitor alienado (estratégias de tradução: normalização/domesticação vs. alienação/estrangeirização); o intérprete como canal impessoal ou agente independente (confiança, lealdade, alianças identitárias).
