After that, we discussed some of the key features of Lévi-Strauss' structuralist approach to anthropology and structuralism in general (F. de Saussure's theory of the sign). Namely, we addressed the way L.-S. deals with the binary opposition nature-culture in the context of food-related cultural practices and the topic of kinship, thus leaning on some concrete examples of the possible application of a structuralist approach in the field. We then started discussing "Race and History", especially its function as a booklet written for the UNESCO in the aftermath of World War II, and aimed at eradicating discriminatory discourses on race. Finally, we introduced the notion of diversity as a key one in the text, as L.-S. insists on the importance of acknowledging diversity despite its problematic nature in the "public mind" (as a possible source of racist discourses).
