Today, we continued our discussion about popular culture by focusing on Lana del Rey, particularly her attempt at appropriating Americana aesthetic through a nostalgic gaze that becomes evident both in her lyrics and music videos. In particular, we commented on the videos of "National Anthem" and "Arcadia", the first being the reenactment of a crucial moment of American history (the assassination of JFK), the second proposing an interesting overlapping between LdR's body and American landscapes. We continued to reflect on landscape and nostalgia by looking at the lyrics of "The greatest", to finish with a short reflection on "Chemtrails over the country club" as a satire of a certain way of depicting the American dream and way of life.
